Music poster analysis

Stiff Little Fingers tour poster analysis

Stiff Little Fingers are a punk rock band from Belfast, formed in 1977 around the troubles in Northern Ireland. The band split up after six years and four albums, including their silver status debut album Inflammable Material, which was the first independently released album to chart in the UK, only to reform 5 years later in 1987. Still touring and recording this poster is to advertise for a recent tour of Spain.

The poster centers on the two fingers that is synonymous of the punk genre and of course which links to the name of the band. It takes the place of the bands own image but still gives a clear identity to the outfit as a punk rock band. The two fingers are also in two tone black and white which is also conventional of the punk rock genre.

The colours used on the poster, red, black and white are the colours that the group have always used on previous albums and is also part of the identity the group have created. These are some of the art and branding that SLF have used in the past including their most recent album artwork. the themes used in the tour poster are clear to see in the rest of the artwork.

Another example of the creation of an identity for the band is the use of the flame. It has been Stiff Little Fingers logo since their debut album which featured the flame on the cover (see right) as well as Anthology shown above. Its these distinctive branding features that mean that the band themselves need not feature on the poster becuase the identity is already clear. Another reason the band may have chosen to not feature on the poster is because the band are already established with fans and are seen to be towards the end of their career meaning that this is a our for the die hard fans who already know the band.

Music video Treatment

Music video Treatment
Unchained – We Are People Music Video
Genre – Soul
Duration – 3,52 minutes
Target Audience - my target audience is from the ages 24-35 which is, from my research (see audience profile), the most popular age group for the artist. The video will not specify a target gender but will follow a main protagonist in the narrative to link with the male lead singer.
Outline – Male protagonist walks through different locations singing into camera about how he is feeling good after past sadness.
Shooting Ideas – The first verse is about sad times and therefore the main protagonist will be sitting at a bar with an empty drink looking down. Then multiple locations following singer with the themes of freedom
locations: pub, reepham or taverham, fields reepham, hinks field, cromer promenade.

Character Breakdown: Male 18 will be the main focus of the video posing as the lead singer of the group, he will feature in almost every shot as he is talking about living his life to the fullest.
